Some distortion of the spinal canal
will occur in virtually every person as they age, but the severity
of the symptoms will depend on the size of a person's spinal canal
and the encroachment on the neural elements. The rate of deterioration
varies greatly from person to person, and not everyone will feel
symptoms.
Spinal stenosis may be caused by a
number of processes that decrease the amount of space in the spinal
canal available for the neural elements. Degenerative causes are
the most common, but there are a few unusual causes of stenosis.
These include calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition, amyloid
deposition, and intradural spinal tumors. The reason why stenosis
causes weakness and pain is the subject of a significant amount
of debate and medical research. Pain in the buttocks or leg, which
is a common symptom of lumbar spinal stenosis, may be associated
with the compression of the micro-vascular structures carrying blood
flow to the nerve roots. At the same time, the symptoms of spinal
stenosis may be the direct result of physical compression of the
nerve roots. Each of these processes may interfere with the normal
function of the nerve roots and decrease the effectiveness and endurance
of the spinal nerves.
Spinal stenosis symptoms
Pain when walking is the most common
symptom of lumbar spinal stenosis. Pain will go away with rest,
but the patient usually has to sit down to ease the pain.
Although occasionally the symptoms
will come on acutely, they generally develop over several years.
The longer a patient stands or walks the worse the pain will get.
Flexing forward or sitting will open up the spinal canal and relieve
the symptoms, but they recur if the patient gets back into an upright
posture. Numbness and tingling can accompany the pain, but weakness
is a rare symptom.
Overall, the symptoms of spinal stenosis
:-
- Develop slowly over time
- May come and go, as opposed to continuous
pain
- Occurs during certain activities
and/or positions
- Relieved by rest and/or any flexed
forward position

How
Does the ROPHI Cushion Give You Lower Back Pain Relief For Spinal
Stenosis Treatment?
It is a well known
medical fact that back pain sufferers should be encouraged to
sleep in the semi foetal postion with a cushion between their
knees, particularly pregnant mums in the third trimester of their
pregnancy. The trouble is that they use ordinary cushions or pillows
which are totally unsuitable. They are too bulky, move out of
position, compact and cause perspiration and soreness.
For natural
Spinal Stenosis Treatment, The
ROPHI Backcare Posture
Cushion provides lower back pain relief by using the night time
when most people go to bed. During this time the multifides muscles
that support the spine get a chance to recuperate and strengthen.
This in turn kick starts the natural healing processes of the
body.
The Inventor of the Rophi cushion
recommends that the cushion is worn every night. Regular use helps
repair any damage done during the day without using painkillers.
Painkillers only mask the pain, they do not promote healing. Nightime
is often the only time you and your back can get the rest needed.
'Get a good
night's sleep without resorting to painkillers for Spinal
Stenosis Treatment'
BackCare, the Association of Healthy
Backs trialed our Rophi cushion and had this to say about them.
"Sleeping on the side in the semi-foetal position during
pregnancy puts less strain on the back. Using 'this' support cushion
between the knees (and the ankles if necessary), helps promote
good posture during sleep, making sleeping more comfortable."
The reason The ROPHI cushion works for lower back pain relief
is because it is very small, stays in place even with a very restless
sleeper, weighs only 100 grammes, does not compact to the point
of discomfort, prevents perspiration and can be regularly washed
at 40 degrees C. on a weekly basis to keep it fresh.
'Sleeping
posture is important'
The cushion has been medically tested
and approved to provide the highest levels of pressure relief
with no risk of perspiration.
